Letter to EPA on Coal Emissions

Dear Administrator Jackson:

I have listened in horror over the last decade as a rising squall of negative hate-speech is directed against those who strive to protect our planet–especially those in government agencies like EPA.

Many of the most critical words against the mission to protect the planet from deregulated energy, food, and chemical corporations come from so-called free-market economists and “libertarians” who want government to “get out of the way” of their economic exploitation for profit of our natural resources and society.

Surprisingly, the Christian Bible is clearly opposed to the anti-environmentalists (see Genesis 2:15, for one example).

Therefore, we must redouble our efforts not only to protect the planet and its resources for future generations, but to endeavor to pass these on in BETTER CONDITION than we ourselves inherited them from our progenitors.

Let the “free market deregulators” find their own planet to ravage for short term profit.

And, thank you for proposing the long overdue rule that would enforce the clean air act’s modern health standards. This rule will help to protect my family and community from the mercury emitted from coal-fired power plants. As many as 1 in 6 American women of childbearing age have enough mercury in their bodies to put their baby at risk of mercury poisoning, which causes brain damage, learning disabilities, and birth defects. Please adopt the strongest possible protections from mercury and other toxic air pollution emitted from coal fired power plants.
